But these are often exceptional and uncontrollable events. Much better instead to act day by day and try to improve your life on a daily basis. Lots of little happiness pills to take regularly.

Have you decided to start training and eating well? Optimal! It means that you have really turned a corner and chosen to love yourself and take care of yourself. The end of summer is often seen as the beginning of a new life. Once we have definitively left the holidays and warm weather behind us, it’s time to put into action the good intentions we’ve always put off. But now the time has come to face them. Build your good habits day by day. Just repeat your new habit for 21 days, and what initially seems new to you will become part of your daily life.

How to form a good habit

How to form a good habit by following the teaching of the boiled frog? Yes, you read that right and I didn’t suddenly go crazy! There is a scientific study done with frogs. What is it about?

It has been observed that by throwing a frog into a tub full of boiling water, the poor thing inevitably jumps for its life. If, however, the unfortunate frog is placed in a pan of cold water and slowly brought to the boil, the frog can be boiled.

Disgust aside, this experiment teaches us something truly surprising!

You are just like the frog. In fact, if you introduce a sudden change your brain, like a frog in boiling water, will try to return to its comfort zone. All your efforts will be in vain and you will face frustration and stress.

To achieve a stable change that will last over time, you will therefore have to introduce  small daily changes.  In the short term, these small changes won’t even register with your nervous system and it won’t try to boycott you. But, thinking in the long term, it will be precisely these small steps that will give you  enormous results .

How to change your life

Let’s start with a daily exercise. Try taking it a bit like a workout, although it will be significantly less tiring. Take five minutes every day to think hard about what you want. But what you really want, your deepest and most personal desires.

What it takes to achieve a goal. I have always thought that to achieve a goal you need two essential things:

FOCUS :

Visualize what you want to achieve. Maybe write it down in black and white, it will be even easier for you to always have it in mind. It doesn’t matter whether it’s your physical shape, an aesthetic ideal, a new job or a different way of acting. Think about your goals daily. It won’t ensure you reach them, but it will remind you that today you have the chance to take a step forward to get closer. It will remind you that you are now doing something good and, come what may, you will have no regrets.

ACTION :

In addition to thinking, also remember to act! What to do exactly? Having a diary is a habit that may really surprise you! If you write down your thoughts, your ideas, your problems every day, you will immediately have great benefits. It will immediately help you to free your mind, to let off steam without keeping everything inside.

Over time, rereading it will help you understand the mechanisms that made you fail and the things that led you to success. We often get caught up in the emotion of the moment and don’t understand exactly what made us angry or sad, leading us to give up everything or otherwise fail. Rereading with a clearer mind can really help you see yourself from a different perspective and make you understand many things. Furthermore, it will allow you to remember your goal every day and the small steps you took to achieve it.

What mistakes to avoid when you want to form a good habit

Changing habits is not always easy. I myself have tried and tried again. I have trained many of them, I am still working on some. However, in my journey I have identified four mistakes that are often repeated.

  • Changing too many things at once. Expecting too much of yourself is the best way to fail. Our mind and body tend to stabilize and would not tolerate too many changes at once. One step at a time and we will go a long way! Don’t try to quit smoking-eat healthy-workout all together. Start with a good habit and continue it consistently for at least a month. Try to consolidate it and then move on to the next one.
  • Quit before you solidify your new good habit . A habit can only be considered such when it becomes automatic. When you no longer need to think about it to put it into practice   you can consider it definitively formed. Don’t throw in the towel before the necessary time, it would really mean having wasted time and resources. What it takes? Obviously it is subjective and also depends on the scale of the company.
  • Seek absolute perfection . Try to think about it: when a new habit enters your life you become intransigent and too much of a perfectionist. The desire is for everything to work perfectly straight away or you risk becoming demotivated. However, perfectionism is an insidious trap. Demanding it puts us in the position of having to start from scratch every time things don’t go exactly as we planned.  Instead, give yourself the luxury of making mistakes : the important thing is that you always have the determination to get back on the right course. A path of change and personal growth is never linear. Rather it is similar to a mountain path full of curves and pitfalls. But how beautiful it is to stop and look at the view!
  • Implementing the wrong strategy. There are a thousand different ways to achieve the same thing. Try to think about those who want to quit smoking: there are those who do it completely from one day to the next, those who switch to electronic cigarettes and those who try to reduce the number of cigarettes every week. There is no universally valid method. Try, experiment and if it doesn’t work don’t be afraid to change your ways.

What good habit should you form to improve your life?

But what to do concretely? Here are some ideas for good habits to give to our lives.

Sleep better

An American study conducted by some researchers at Binghamton University has shown that going to bed early reduces anxiety and negative thoughts. People who go to bed late are more prone to weight problems.

Don’t take this as an excuse to laze around, though! A second study from the University of Warwick, in fact, claims that those who sleep too much also experience an increase in mortality. The ideal amount of sleep for an adult is seven per night. With the hectic life we live and the thousand commitments that beset us it is often not easy.

How can you fall asleep and, above all, be able to sleep deeply and have a restful sleep? First create a suitable environment. Choose natural fabrics for curtains, sheets and carpets. Change the air in your room often. Choose appropriate lighting. Don’t raise the temperature too much. And, I know this is a sore point, try not to keep your smartphone on your nightstand.

A good awakening

The ideal is to wake up calmly and have time to have a good breakfast without too much stress. If you can, train or, at least, do some simple stretching or yoga exercises. You can find some very good ones, and in Italian, right here .

Physical activity and health

Be careful, it doesn’t mean going from marathons on the couch to killing yourself with workouts. What rewards is consistency and not quantity. Choose a workout suited to your level of training and your needs. Do you want to change your life? Do you want to lose weight? Increase muscle? Firming a specific area of your body? Choose the one that best suits you with this easy test.

Playing sport is good for your body and mood! Stick to the program you have chosen, also train yourself not to give up and to be constant. Don’t expect immediate and training results by taking everything good that comes from sport without burdening yourself with too many expectations.

Take care of yourself

Eat healthily, trying to introduce not only the right quantities, but also foods capable of providing the right nutrients. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. It will help you have hydrated and glowing skin, more responsive muscles, less DOMS and healthier joints. We often tend to underestimate small ailments and postpone any medical checks. But having a regular check-up helps prevent many diseases.

How to eliminate smoking, alcohol and junk food

They are a truly dangerous triptych for your health. One of the best gifts you can give yourself is to stop smoking: the risk of heart attack is halved, the quality of sleep improves, taste and smell are rediscovered, the risk of lung and oral cancer is reduced. to the esophagus, and life expectancy is getting longer and longer, reaching that of a non-smoker over the years.

Try to reduce your alcohol consumption and eliminate hard alcohol altogether.

Often, when you stop smoking, you can compensate with food. Even more often with junk food. Learning to understand the difference between nervous hunger and real hunger can really be the turning point for your life.

Pamper yourself every day

To change your life you don’t need to spend too much money or time. Alternate a different cuddle every day. It can be a facial cleansing, a hydrating mask, a hair pack. A nice massage. The important thing is to dedicate at least an hour to yourself. It will be your daily recharge. Try comparing your day to the rhythm of your breathing.

There is a phase to exhale: work, dedicating yourself to caring for your family, studying… But there is also a moment to inhale. Rest, relax, take care of yourself. After an entire day in which you have accumulated stress, in the evening the time comes to breathe in and think exclusively of yourself.

Never feel guilty: it’s not an hour stolen from others. In order to light a candle it must cure its flame. If you are happy you will be able to convey your serenity to those around you.

Address fears and anxieties

With anger and stress you will never achieve anything good. Learning to manage negative emotions, or better yet prevent them, can really help you not to abandon everything in a moment of discouragement. Through self-knowledge you can truly overcome the fears that have held you back all your life.

You smile!

It may seem trivial and simplistic but smiling at life can really help you feel and make you feel better. Even doctors now say that laughing reduces stress, strengthens the immune system and stimulates endorphins. Not to mention that it keeps the muscles of the entire face and neck trained and re-oxygenates the lungs. A smile a day changes your life!

Having sex is good for your life!

Porkout, as we know, is good for the mood and the body. It’s the most fun way to do cardio and burn calories! It strengthens the immune system, reduces stress and immediately makes us more euphoric.

Train your mind

Read, write, train, stay informed. Listen to new music, don’t close yourself off to people. Learn something new every day. In addition to keeping your mind occupied with good things and preventing it from thinking bad thoughts, you will get richer every day.
