Detox: Lately there has been a real explosion of diets , detox drinks and fat burning foods . But what are they exactly? And, above all, do they work?
The success they have achieved has lasted for a long time now but, it must be said, that we often hear about it in a consistent (and insistent) manner immediately after the holidays. Who knows why then?
They promptly pop up like snails after the spring rain and aim to make you feel guilty. But guilty for what? Christmas panettone? The Easter dove? Grandma’s lasagna? It seems that the solution to losing weight and purifying the body necessarily involves a strong sense of guilt and requires detox drinks or purifying foods . But do they really work? Are there foods that can sweep away guilt and toxins from our body?
Detox diet, does it work?
The trend of taking drinks and detox foods , together with the idea that there are fat burning foods that help us lose weight and detoxify our body from harmful substances, is becoming increasingly popular. The detox diet is therefore born with the aim of purifying the body from dietary excesses. A resolution that seems healthy. But is all that glitters gold?
The reality is that detox diets hide a rather unfair side: they present themselves as something healthy capable of cleansing your body and as a quick way to achieve aesthetic and health results. But all doctors state with absolute certainty that our body is perfectly capable of detoxifying itself.
The first and important clarification to be made is, therefore, that the detox diet is not a quick solution suitable for a healthy lifestyle: often those who choose it end up alternating periods of dietary indiscretions with restorative detox drinks. But what allows the body to truly purify itself is a healthy lifestyle continued over time. Drink lots of water, eat healthy and with the right amount of fiber, do regular physical activity… All this will allow you to have a healthy body and also able to cope with any bad days.
Detox herbal teas
They are popping up everywhere! Detox herbal teas have catchy slogans and promise on all social media to erase all food cravings in one sip . I bet you too have seen a lot of advertisements for slimming teas or magic herbal teas!
Of course they are always advertised by super fit, fashionable and beautiful girls!
But do they work or are they an unnecessary expense? Let’s start from an assumption: herbal teas have excellent effects on our health:
- They really have a draining and purifying power
- They are excellent hunger-busting snacks.
- They help you drink much more
- They heat in the winter and cool in the summer
- Green tea , fennel, birch… nature can really help us. Red tea, free of theine/caffeine, is very useful.
“Great, you’ll say, I’ll rush out and buy them” Wait!
The negative effects of herbal teas
In all slimming diets, but not only, you are advised to drink lots of water. Remember, however, that too much water can also have negative effects! And, consequently, excessive consumption of herbal teas can also create problems. In fact, do not forget that these are natural herbs that nevertheless contain active ingredients whose excessive consumption can be dangerous. In short, natural is not always synonymous with universally valid.
Another very important thing to pay attention to: we said that herbal teas can really help. However, there are many preparations or mixes on the market that promise miracles, obviously in exchange for a lot of money. Always keep in mind that a herbal tea can never work miracles!
Associated with diet and sport it can give extra help but never remedy an unregulated lifestyle. In reality, very often these are often expensive products that do not seem to contain much of a detoxifier within them: to date no manufacturer has been able to scientifically specify what these miraculous active ingredients are. Not to mention the price! The advice is to go to a common herbalist’s shop and have a mix prepared customized to your needs.
Conclusions on detox herbal teas
The inconvenient truth is that there is no magic food or drink that will alone allow you to lose weight or detoxify your body. There are no shortcuts! Instead, it is necessary to change your eating habits and lifestyle.
In short, to feel truly well you need to adopt a correct lifestyle. Starting from love for yourself. Don’t fall into the ambiguous vortex of slimming advertisements that want to make you feel dirty and in need of purification. The principle on which the detox diet is based is precisely this: The principle of the detox diet is precisely this: pushing people to feel intoxicated and in need of cleansing.
All doctors agree on one thing: the only true detox treatment is a serious practice applied to people with addiction problems (such as alcohol, medications or drugs). The rest are just fashions or trends artfully created to exploit the meaning of words and create false hopes for the sole purpose of making profit.
In conclusion? The only thing you need to cleanse yourself of is the moral blackmail and exploitation carried out by those who sell false hopes.
